For a long time we have felt there was a need for a model engineering and hobby  show in south Lincolnshire. Speaking to local enthusiasts we were encouraged to find that they shared our view. Though clubs and companies travelled to the regional shows of the Midlands, North and South, all saw the attraction of an event closer to home. Nonetheless it was with some trepidation that we set about planning the very first show. Would there be sufficient exhibitors interested in taking part? Could we attract sufficient traders? Would people come to a new show in this part of the country?

Preparation took the best part of a year with a small team of people all contributing their particular skills to the venture. And, as the number of people wanting to take part grew, so too did our confidence that the show was something that the area as a whole welcomed. When April 26th and 27th finally arrived we were delighted by the response of the public. People were very enthusiastic and filled the halls on both days. They were very complimentary about both the variety and quality of what was offered. One visitor was overheard, on his mobile phone, urging his friend to “get himself down to Springfields” because there was “loads to see”. The best recommendations are the unsolicited ones!

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of the various clubs, societies and associations who brought along their models, machines and skills. We are grateful for their participation. Equally important were the companies whose stands and demonstrations showed off products that were both cutting-edge and traditional. The participants of the Spalding Model Engineering and Hobby Show 2014 are listed below along with further photographs from the event.  If you are inspired by what you have read and seen about the event and want to be part of a future Show we’d be delighted to hear from you!
