2016 Show

We are very pleased to report that the 2016 Spalding Model Engineering and Hobby Show was the best yet. Attendance was up on the previous two years with Saturday, in particular, very busy with a great atmosphere. It was especially pleasing to see more families attending the show and children enjoying the interactive activities that were available.

The 3D printing displays were a great draw to enthusiasts and young people and we were pleased to have such enthusiastic  people manning these stands. Children were delighted to take home items made at the show. The traditional engineering societies did the show proud with beautiful, intricate and impressive models on display. The 1/3 scale Bentley engines on the PEEMS stand drew large crowds, particularly when they were started up.

The Flying Zone displayed a good variety of drones, indoor lightweight aircraft and helicopters. It was great to see that a tiny, low-cost, polystyrene r/c biplane was needed as many skills and provided as much fun as the large helicopter that filled the main hall with sound when it took off. The BFMA flight simulator provided great fun for the would-be r/c aircraft enthusiast, and a couple of the aircraft model clubs had laptop versions available for the public to use too. Have-a-g0 was well catered for by radio-control cars and tanks and lots of children could be seen causing controlled mayhem as they drove their vehicles round the outdoors obstacles and landscape.

Miniature traction Engine by Springfield Shops

This year there were two road-runs made by the miniature traction engines around Springfield Gardens and by the shopping area. These were enjoyed by the exhibitors, visitors and members of the public who were out doing their shopping.

The organisers would like to thank traders, exhibitors and demonstrators both inside and outside for providing the most varied content of the show to date. Thanks too to the stewards for their commitment and hard work in preparing, running and dismantling the show. Without them there would be no show! Also thanks to Springfield’s staff and security for their unstinting support before, during and after the show.

If you came to this year’s show and enjoyed it encourage your friends to come next year. Without visitors there can be no show. During the past three years we have been gratified by the support that the people of South Lincolnshire have given to the event, and we hope to see you next year.
