CMD Engineering, manufacturers and suppliers of 7¼” miniature trains, has had a stand at every Spalding show since 2014. This year the company has branched out and sponsored the Velocipede Challenge project that Boston Grammar School and Spalding Grammar School are undertaking. Each has been given a bogey and component axle, of the type seen in the photo of CMD’s workshop, on which to base their vehicle. Each school’s design is different, and constructed according to the ideas and inspiration of each school team.
At the April show both teams will be exhibiting their vehicle in a workshop area that will include a presentation and information about the Velocipede Challenge. And, solely in the context of the show, they will be judged by one of our exhibitors and a small award will be made. More than that, however, the Sunday of the show both vehicles will be running on the track that will at other times be used for giving train rides.
It’s good to see small engineering companies supporting the good work that goes on in schools introducing students to the discipline of engineering. We hope you can come along and enjoy this event.
