The Webster family have been visiting, exhibiting, and stewarding at vintage and model engineering shows since the mid 1980s in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We were members of South Yorkshire Miniature Traction Engine Club in their early days, when we were building a 4 inch Single Crank Compound Burrell, riding trolley and water cart. Living in York, we were also members of York & District Model Engineering Society for several years helping out at Wednesday working days to level the site to enable the laying of a 7.25 inch ground level track, and taking our Burrell to their open days by road, a distance of 2 miles.

In the formative period of the National  Engineering & Modelling Exhibition at Harrogate we were involved for many years in the role of stewards, assisting the Rex family and their team on a day to day basis.  Moving to Lincolnshire in 2002, once we had completed building our new home, we built our own 7.25inch garden railway. We run a Vulcan locomotive and rolling stock for family enjoyment, all built here in our village in Lincolnshire, and are currently involved in building a mechanical locomotive with a hydro-static gear box. This is in addition to restoring and showing vintage tractors.

In March 2013 we organised and ran, with the help of friends in the village, our first Railway & Model Engineering Show to raise money for the village hall and a local charity.  It was a great success, and we have had an amazing number of requests from exhibitors to take part in 2014. These requests far exceed the size of the village hall! Talking to Lou Rex whilst stewarding at the 2013 National Show at Harrogate we decided that Spalding would be an ideal location for a “new” model engineering and model event, run in a similar way to Harrogate, but on a smaller scale. We staged this as the “Spalding Model Engineering & Hobbies Show” at Springfield’s Events Centre on April 26th and 27th 2014. We were delighted by the response from exhibitors, traders and the general public. The second show in 2015 at the same venue was equally well-received, as was the third show in 2016. With three shows under our belt we are confident that the fourth show to be held at Springfields, Spalding, on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April 2017, will be bigger and better with many new exhibits and trade stands.
